BRYANT SET TO TAKE ON STONY BROOK, NORTHEASTERN IN WOMEN'S SOCCER ACTION THIS WEEK

SMITHFIELD, RI- After snapping a four-game losing streak with a, 1-1, tie at the University of Maine Saturday, the Bryant University women's soccer team is set to travel to Stony Brook for a Tuesday night match-up, followed by a trip to Boston to take on Northeastern Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs (1-4-1), who won their Division I debut, 3-2, in overtime over Northern Colorado, had lost four straight, including dropping games against Wyoming, Providence, George Washington, and UMass, before earning the tie at Maine over the weekend. Sophomore midfielder Sarah Donovan (Storrs, Conn.) scored the lone goal of the match for Bryant to help the squad to its first draw of 2008.

Scouting the Seawolves
The Stony Brook University Seawolves (3-3-0) are coming off a 5-0 defeat at the hands of 13th ranked Boston College on Friday night. It was the only game of the week for the Seawolves, who were ranked 13th in the Northeast in Soccer Buzz Magazine coming into play last week. The squad had won two in a row prior to the loss to BC Friday, defeating Manhattan, 1-0, and Fordham, 2-1. SBU has also had losses to Long Island, 1-0, and Providence, 2-0. The Bulldogs suffered a loss to the Friars as well by a final tally of 3-1.

The Seawolves, who were picked to finish 3rd in the America East Conference, are led by senior forward Trine Allenberg (Roberts, Wisc.). Allenberg, who earned America East Player of the Week honors last week, is the team leader in points with five on the season, including two goals and one assist, scoring the game winner in the team's 1-0 victory over Manhattan.

Scouting the Huskies
The Northeastern Huskies, who boast the number two ranked recruiting class in the Colonial Athletic Conference according to SoccerBuzz Magazine, are coming off a 1-0 loss to cross-town rival Boston University on Sunday. Prior to the loss, the Huskies had rattled off three straight wins, with victories over Creighton, Ohio, and New Hampshire. Northeastern went undefeated in the Regina Moench Tournament hosted by the University of Minnesota last weekend, with a thrilling 2-1 win over Creighton before beating Ohio, 2-0.

The Huskies (3-2-0) are led by junior forward Liza Rebello (New Bedford, Mass.), who leads the team in goals (3) and points (6) for the season. Freshman midfielder Gabbi Jatkola (Yarmouth, Mass.) is second on the team in points with two goals and one assist. Jatkola and Rebello were named to the Regina Moench All-Tournament team along with senior defender Brenna Matthews (South Easton, Mass.), who scored the game-winning goal in overtime against Creighton. The Huskies will battle Harvard this week before taking on the Bulldogs Sunday afternoon.

Underclass Heroes
The Bulldogs have seen tremendous contributions from underclassmen so far this season. Freshmen Kaitlyn Hinck (2g, 0a) and Brooke Duchaney (1g, 2a) are tied for the team lead with four points apiece along with junior Alex DiPippo (Shelton, Conn.) and Sophomore Sarah Donovan. Hinck (Bow, N.H.) scored the game winning goal in the first overtime session against Northern Colorado to give the Bulldogs a win in their Division I debut. Donovan has been excellent in the midfield, dishing out two assists while also registering the long goal against the University of Maine over the weekend.

The Bulldogs will be in action Tuesday night at Stony Brook (7 p.m.) and at Northeastern on Sunday (1 p.m.). Check www.bryantbulldogs.com for all of you Bryant sports updates.
