BRYANT TAKES ON DARTMOUTH, NJIT THIS WEEK
SMITHFIELD, RI- The Bryant University women's soccer team will play their first game since last Wednesday when they travel to Dartmouth to take on the Big Green of the Ivy League Tuesday at 4 p.m. The Bulldogs are coming off a 3-3 tie with the Brown Bears, led by a Bryant single-game record 16 saves from senior keeper Jessica Clark (Barnstable, Mass.). The Bulldogs had a 2-0 lead early in the game, receiving goals from Sarah Donovan (Storrs, Conn.) and Kaitlyn Hinck (Bow, N.H.), her fifth of the season. The Bears would tie the game before halftime, but Bryant grabbed a 3-2 lead just 46 seconds into the second half on an own goal. The Bulldogs would hold that lead until the 80th minute, when Brown tied the game on a header that just beat Clark, as the game ended in a tie. Bryant will take on Dartmouth on Tuesday before traveling to New Jersey to play NJIT on Sunday.
Scouting the Big Green
Dartmouth (5-5-1, 0-3 Ivy League), ranked 10th in the
Northeast in this week's Soccer Buzz rankings, is coming
off a loss in its last game, falling to Yale, 2-0, on Saturday, and
is still looking for its first Ivy League win. The Big Green has
played in four overtime games this season, going 3-0-1 in those
games. The squad has had 10 different players record goals, with
five players scoring two.
Myra Sack leads the way, having played in over 1000 minutes, registering two goals and four assists for a total of eight points. Kelsey Quick is just behind her with seven points, also with two goals and dishing out three assists. Dartmouth has also had five different players score game-winning goals, with freshman Aly O'Dea leading the team, scoring game-winners against Oregon State and UNH in overtime.
Scouting the Highlanders
The NJIT Highlanders (2-12-1, 1-1-1 USC), members of the
United Soccer Conference, are coming off a 0-0 tie against
defending USC champions, Longwood on Saturday. The Highlanders are
1-11-0 in non-conference matchups, with their lone win coming in a
4-2 victory over Wagner, an opponent the Bulldogs also beat this
season.
Erika Taugher leads NJIT in scoring, putting home three goals and adding four assists, for a total of ten points. Taugher had the game-winner in the Highlanders' first conference win of the season, beating SC State University, 2-0. NJIT will celebrate senior day on Sunday afternoon against the Bulldogs, playing in their second to last regular season game of the season.
Underclass Heroes
The Bulldogs have continued to see great contributions from
underclassmen this season. Freshman Kaitlyn Hinck leads the team
with eleven points, tallying five goals and one assist thus far
including the game winning goals in both wins for Bryant (3-2 over
Northern Colorado and 3-2 over Wagner). Sophomore Sarah Donovan
(Storrs, Conn.) is second on the team in points with eight,
registering three goals and two assists, scoring the game-tying
goal at Stony Brook earlier this year and putting home a goal last
week against Brown. Brooke Duchaney (1g, 2a) is
tied for second on the team with four points along with junior
Alex DiPippo (Shelton, Conn.). Freshman
Kalie Whitehouse (Braintree,
Mass.) recorded her first career goal in a loss at
Northeastern. The underclassmen have accounted for 28 of the 40
total points thus far this season for the Bulldogs.
