BRYANT PICKED TO SHARE EIGHTH SPOT IN NEC WOMEN'S SOCCER PRESEASON POLL

SMITHFIELD, RI- The Bryant University women's soccer team was picked to share the eighth spot in its first year competing with a full Northeast Conference schedule. The poll, voted on by league coaches, was announced Wednesday afternoon.

Chris Flint enters his 10th season as head coach of the Bulldogs and hopes to build upon the success they had against conference opponents last year, when Bryant went 2-0-1 against future league rivals.

Bryant returns nine starters including senior captains Alex DiPippo (Shelton, Conn.) and Molly Wallace (Sandwich, Mass.). DiPippo is a three-year starter for the Bulldogs who will look to control the tempo of the game from the midfield position. Wallace will be expected to anchor the defense and fill the void left by graduated All-American Danielle Malta.

The Bulldogs play a schedule that includes 10 home games and three contests against 2008 NCAA tournament participants (Central Connecticut, Fairfield, Boston University).

Central Connecticut State was slated as the league favorite and looks to defend their 2008 conference title. Long Island, Monmouth, Saint Francis (PA) and Quinnipiac round out the top five, respectively. Farleigh Dickinson and Robert Morris were voted sixth and seventh, just ahead of the two way tie for eighth between the Bulldogs and Sacred Heart. Rounding out the poll was Wagner and Mount St. Mary's, respectively.

Bryant's 2009 campaign begins Friday Aug. 28 when the Bulldogs travel to Washington D.C. to face Georgetown in a tournament hosted by American University.
