BRYANT MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING HOSTS MAINE FRIDAY AT 5 PM
SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The Bryant University men's and women's swim teams open up the home season this Friday evening hosting the University of Maine Black Bears in a dual meet starting at 5 pm. Friday's meet will be the first of three-straight at home for the Bulldogs who will host Boston College on Sunday, November 1 and Providence College on Friday, November 13th.
The women will be looking to rebound from last weekend's season-opening loss to Wagner College on Saturday, falling by a score of 160-102. Freshman Molly Smith (Belmont, Mass.) won a pair of events and finished a runner up in another in her first collegiate meet. Casey Ostrander (Yarmouthport, Mass.) and Kim Carballeira (East Setauket, NY) were also winners.
The men's swim team opened up its 2009-2010 season with a 116-71 win over NJIT on the road on last Saturday. The Bulldogs dominated the Highlanders, winning every event and getting the program's second year of competing at the Division I level off to a great start. Kevin McDonald (North Haven, CT) turned in one of many fine performances on the day for the Bulldogs. McDonald finished first in both the 200 and 100 yard freestyle events. Sophomore transfer Alex Kosenski (Lavalette, NJ) was also a double winner in his first meet as a Bulldog, winning both the 50 and 500 yard freestyle events.
The Maine women's team opened their season last week with a win over Central Connecticut and a loss to Northeastern. The 400 yard freestyle relay team took first in a time of 3:45.71. This will be the opener for Maine's men's team. The women placed seventh at last year's America East Championship with the men placing fifth.
