Solomon Wins Women's Tennis East Regional

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Bryant University women’s tennis standout Sacha Solomon (Bourne, Mass.) captured the women’s singles title at the ITA East Regional Championship held over the weekend at Shippensburg University. Solomon, the 2004 Northeast-10 Conference Freshman of the Year and Conference Player of the Year, won all five matches in becoming the first Bryant women’s tennis player to capture the ITA East title.


Solomon, seeded seventh at the tournament, defeated the top three seeds of the tournament en route to the championships. In the quarterfinals, the Bryant sophomore defeated Bloomsburg University’s Iida Hokkanen, the second seed of the tournament, in straight sets 6-2, 6-0. She would follow with a straight-set win over No. 3 seed Lina Pavilionyte of Shippensburg, 6-4, 7-5 to earn the right to play for the title.

In the championship match, Solomon made quick work of top-seeded Yvonne Niederbracht of Indiana University (Pa.) 6-3, 6-2 in Monday’s championship match. Niederbracht, is a senior from Germany and IUP’s No. 1 player. With her victory, Solomon will next advance to the ITA National Championship in Florida Oct. 13 -17, 2004.
