SMITHFIELD, RI - Bryant University, making its third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis tournament, picked up a 5-1 win over Philadelphia University in first round action Friday at the Bryant Tennis Complex in Smithfield, RI.   Bryant (17-3) led 2-1 after doubles play and got wins in singles play from junior Sacha Solomon (Bourne, Mass.) at No. 1, Annette Jervasi (Colchester, Conn.) at No. 3 singles, and Alanna Santanello (North Providence, RI) at No. 5 to advance to the second round for the second-straight season. 

Bryant will face Kutztown Saturday at 12 pm for the right to advance to the NCAA Finals in Kansas City, Missouri next week.

SMITHFIELD, RI - Kutztown University junior Jharna Nansi (Mumbai, India) defeated California (Pa.) junior Jessica Brown (Pittsburgh, Pa.) 6-3 in the third set at No. 4 singles to help lift the Bears to a thrilling 5-4 win over the Vulcans in NCAA Division II First Round action Friday at Smithfield, RI.   California took a 2-1 lead into singles play after earning wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.  Magaly Peter (Mundolsheim, France), Priya Pachkawde (Nasik, India) and Lauren Losoncy (Shillington, Pa.) all came up winners in singles play to send the Bears into the second round.
