FIFTH-STRAIGHT NCAA TOURNAMENT
Bulldogs To Host First and Second Round May
9-10
SMITHFIELD, RI - The Bryant University women's tennis team will make its fifth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division II tournament next week when the Bulldogs host the first and second rounds of the 2008 NCAA Division II tournament at the Bryant University Tennis Complex.
Bryant (23-2), the winner No. 2 seed in the East Region, will open the tournament against Philadelphia University (17-6) on Friday, May 9. Slippery Rock (20-3) and Holy Family (15-5) will play in the other first round game with the winners to meet Saturday, May 10 at 12 pm.
The winner of that match will advance to the Round of 16 in Houston, TX May 14-17.
Bryant earned its first invitation to the NCAA Regional's in 2004 only to fall in the first round to Indiana (Pa.) 5-2 in a match played at Bloomsburg, Pa.
In 2005, Bryant took another step forward, advancing to the regional final with a 5-2 first round win over Queens (NY) before falling to Kutztown 5-1 in the regional final played at Kutztown, Pa.
In 2006, the last time Bryant hosted the event, the Bulldogs defeated Philadelphia in the first round before falling to Kutztown in the second round of the championships.
Last year, the Bulldogs traveled to California, PA and once again picked up a win in the first round, defeating Queens (NY) before falling to host California PA.
