BULLDOGS PLACE FIFTH AT NEW ENGLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS
FAIRFIELD, CONN.- Emma Czarnecki (Huntington Woods, Mich.) and Katie Francazio (Cranston, R.I.) both finished in fourth place in their respecitve brackets as the Bryant women's tennis team finished in fifth place at the New England Championships over the weekend. The squad finished with 33 points, beating out Providence, Merrimack, and Hartford. Rhode Island took home the title, finishing with a 79 point total. Francazio and Czarnecki each put up a five point total for the Bulldogs, falling in their third place matches.
Valerie Couto-Cuervo (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) won a tough match to take home fifth place in third singles, beating Emily Marr of Holy Cross, 6-2, 3-6, 11-9.
Also scoring in singles for Bryant were Amanda Granville (Hawley, Pa.), who finished sixth in fourth singles, Talia Aviani (East Rockaway, N.J.), also finishing in sixth in fifth singles, and Martha Chapman (Orange, Conn.), who took home seventh in sixth singles.
In doubles action, Czarnecki and Francazio won their fifth place match, 8-4, in first doubles, while Aviani and Granville lost in the third place match in third doubles, 8-2, placing them fourth in the bracket.
Bryant will be in action in two weeks when they play at the ITA's.
