Hidalgo selected as NEC's Player of the Week for second time this season
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – After helping the Bulldogs finish undefeated in league play by means of a 4-3 victory over league power Fairleigh Dickinson, Bryant University women's tennis junior Claudia Hidalgo (Guayaquil, Ecuador) was named the Northeast Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Hidalgo claims her second NEC Player of the Week honor this spring for her role in Bryant's victory against the preseason second-ranked Knights on Saturday in Teaneck, N.J. She first teamed with sophomore Marcela Brandao (Santo Andre, Brazil) for a 9-8 (6) win at #2 doubles, then posted a 6-4, 6-1 victory over two-time All-NEC player Elmine Botes in #1 singles.
Hidalgo, the reigning NEC Player of the Year, is 3-1 versus NEC competition this season in singles for the Bulldogs, who finished their league slate a perfect 4-0 in their final year of reclassification.
Bryant finishes the 2011-12 season this week with road matches against the University of Massachusetts, Manhattan and Stony Brook, and will welcome Holy Cross on Thursday (April 12) at 3 p.m. for its final home match of the season.
