SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's teams team topped Hartford, 7-0, Wednesday afternoon at the Bryant Tennis Courts to remain unbeaten on the year.
The Bulldogs (3-0), paced by a strong start in doubles action by the freshmen tandem of Ryan Brown (Austin, Texas) and Marion Bouillin (San Diego, Calif.). The rookie team blanked Katina Zampas and Colleen Beck, 8-0, at no. 1 doubles, while Stephanie Smyers (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Briana Leonard (Westford, Mass.) were equally impressive at no. 2 doubles, topping Ashley Harel and Madeline Makings, 8-1.
In singles action, all six Bulldogs took care of their opponents in straight-sets to solidify the 7-0 sweep. At the number one spot, Boullin earned a W after Harel was forced to retire, while Brown improved to 2-0 at the no. 1 singles position with a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Zampas. Smyers and Leonard took care of business at the no. 3 and 4 singles spots, respectively, with freshman Jenna LaBarre (Smithfield, R.I.) and sophomore Jovana Hadzi-Tanovic (Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro) picking up convincing wins as well.
With the match vs. Hartford on Wednesday, the Black and Gold began a stretch which includes two dual matches and a pair of weekend tournaments, essentially amounting to eight matches over the next 10 days. Next up, Bryant hits the road for the USTA Invitational over the weekend.
