Brown, Bird earn All-NEC postseason honors
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Coming off a spectacular rookie campaign, freshman Ryan Brown (Austin, Texas) was named First Team All-Northeast Conference honors at number two singles, announced the conference Wednesday morning.
Brown, who finished her fantastic freshman season with a 10-5 mark at no. 2 singles, also earned an All-NEC Second Team nod at no. 1 doubles with partner Rosie Bird (Hamilton, New Zealand), as the duo helped lead Bryant all the way to the conference semifinals for the first time in program history.
In singles competition, Brown finished the year with a 13-7 overall record, leading the Bulldogs in wins in just her first season in Smithfield. She closed the season on a five-match win streak, picking up NEC victories over Sacred Heart's Lindsey Post and Fairleigh Dickinson's Shreya Pasricha. Brown earned a pair of NEC Rookie of the Week honors and was named NEC Player of the Week on April 1.
In doubles action, Brown and Bird teamed up to go 6-4 at no. 1 doubles en route to a Second Team All-NEC selection. The tandem finished 4-1 against NEC competition throughout the season, earning wins over Sacred Heart, Robert Morris, and LIU Brooklyn both in the regular season and the NEC Semifinals.
Closing the books on yet another strong spring season for Bryant women's tennis, the Bulldogs return nearly their entire roster next fall, including both Brown and Bird, as they continue to work towards their goal of a NEC Championship.
