Bulldogs Split Pair of Home Matches Friday

SMITHFIELD, RI – The Bryant women’s volleyball team split a pair of nonconference home matches on Friday, defeating Assumption 3-0 but falling to Dowling College 3-0 in the second game. The Bulldogs cruised in the first match against Assumption, hitting .369 as a team and getting a career-best 13 kills from sophomore Beth Schlatterer (Arlington Heights, IL) while Lindsay Klix had 10 kills and hit .348 for the Buldogs against the Greyhounds.

In the second game, the Bulldogs ran into a strong Dowling squad that hit .364 as a team and got 18 kills from Marta Slodnik to hand Bryant its first home loss of the season and just the second overall.

The Bulldogs led early 4-1 in the first game but Dowling settled down behind the strong attack of Slodnik and teammate Justyna Michon who added 13 kills for the Golden Lions. Dowling was able to pull out a 30-23 win in the first game and battled hard for a 31-29 win in the second. In the third, the Golden Lions broke open a 14-14 tie with six unanswered points to take a 20-14 and held on for a 30-21 win to win the match.

Michelle Muniz had nine kills to lead Bryant. The Bulldogs (11-2) will travel to Southern New Hampshire for a Northeast-10 Conference match on Tuesday.
