BRYANT VOLLEYBALL OPENS SEASON 3-1

The Bryant women’s volleyball team opened the 2004 season this weekend at the University of Puerto volleyball tournament. The Bulldogs finished the two-day tournament with a 3-1 record, defeating UPR-Mayaguez 3-0 (30-19, 30-19, 30-22), UPR-Cayey 3-1 (30-21, 30-27, 28-30, 20-30), UPR-Bayamon 3-1 (30-25, 30-26, 13-30, 25-30). The only blemish to the weekend was a 3-0 defeat to powerful Puerto Rico – Rio Piedras (30-25, 30-27, 30-25).

The Bulldogs were led by junior Michelle Muniz (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) who had 58 kills for the tournament while senior Carola Pierluisi (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) had 90 defensive digs, including 32 against UPR-Bayamon in the final match of the weekend. Muniz had 22 kills on 61 swings in the 3-1 win over Cayey while Jessica Henson (Bedford, TX) had four blocks to go with eight kills. The Bulldogs will return to action next Saturday at Saint Rose.
