Volleyball Wins Seventh Straight, Defeat Merrimack 3-0 Tuesday

SMITHFIELD, RI --- Michelle Muniz (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) paced the Bulldogs with 17 kills and 17 digs to help lead the Bryant women?s volleyball team to a 3-0 win over visiting Merrimack College here Tuesday night. Game scores were 30-27, 30-20, 30-21. The victory is Bryant?s seventh-straight 13 of last 14 as the Bulldogs improve to 24-3 overall and stayed perfect in conference play at 11-0.

Freshman Jessica Henson (Bedford, Texas) and Jessica Cegarra (Danville, N.H.) chipped in with 15 and 13 kills respectively while freshman setter Tiffany Garry (Frankfort, Ill.) had 46 assists.

Merrimack, led by Maura Hughes? (Carefree, Arizona) game-high 14 kills, pulled even with the Bulldogs at 25-25 late in the first. However, two quick kills from Henson and service ace from Muniz, the Bulldogs closed out the Warriors to win 30-27.

The Bulldogs cruised from there, pulling away late for a 30-20 win in the second game and broke open a 13-12 game in the third to win 30-21. Carola Pierluisi (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) finished with 15 digs defensively as she moves closer to becoming the all-time career digs leader. Pierluisi needs only 13 digs to move past former standout Kerry Beach for the all-time record of 1,799.

The Bulldogs will travel to New Haven on Thursday for a non-conference game before returning home on Saturday to host 11th-ranked Tampa Saturday at 7 p.m.
