Volleyball Wins In Three Over Southern Connecticut

SMITHFIELD, RI -- Freshman Jessica Henson (Bedford, Texas) had 15 kills and 12 digs while Jessica Cegarra (Danville, NH) added 12 kills and three blocks to help lead the Bryant volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Southern Connecticut here Saturday. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 21-3 overall on the season and 9-0 in conference. Southern Connecticut, led by Kathleen Remirez and Lauren Pasquariello’s five kills, drops to 2-11 overall and 0-7 in the Northeast-10.

Game scores were 30-11, 30-18, 30-19.

The Bulldogs hit .433 in the first game and .441 in the third as the Bulldogs used strong serving to help in the win. In Friday’s win over Pace, Bryant tallied 14 service aces. Against the Owls on Saturday, Bryant racked up 15 more aces led by Beth Schlatterer’s (Arlington Heights, IL) career-best six aces. Henson added a three aces on the day for Bryant.

As a team, Bryant hit .340 for the match as senior Carola Pierluisi (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) helped key the defensive effort with 20 defensive digs. With 1,732 career digs, Pierluisi needs only 33 digs to move into second all-time in school history for career digs. Former standout Marcie Monaco is currently second with 1,764.

Bryant will travel to UMass Lowell on Tuesday for a match between the only two remaining undefeated teams in conference play this season. Bryant enters the match 9-0 in league play while the River Hawks are 8-0 (11-3 overall)
