Volleyball Defeats Wilmington 3-0 at Bryant Invite
SMITHFIELD, RI - Jessica Cegarra had 17 kills while Michelle Muniz netted 16 as the Bryant University women's volleyball team defeated Wilmington during opening night action of the 2005 Bryant Invitational at the Chace Athletic Center.
The Bulldogs raced out to a 22-6 lead in the first game and rolled 30-10 in the opener, but the Wilcats hung tough in the second. The visitors of the CACC Conference led Bryant 16-12 midway through the second stanza but Bryant would rally to even the score 20-20.
The Bulldogs, behind the power-hitting of Muniz and Cegarra up front, would close out the second by a score of 33-31. In the third, Wilmington again held a 7-4 advantage early but the Bulldogs would pull away late for a 30-24 win.
Bryant hit .364 for the match with 10 blocks as Cegarra had a
solo and pair of block assists in the match. Bryant will host Mercy
(11 am) and Saint Anselm (1 pm) on Saturday to close out the
tournament.
