BRYANT VOLLEYBALL PLACES TWO ON

NORTHEAST-10 ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM

SMITHFIELD, RI -   Three members of the Bryant volleyball team were named to the Northeast-10 All-Academic team this week. Sophomore Maureen Atkins (Fenton, MO /St. Joseph's) was named to the second team and senior Beth Schlatterer (Arlington Heights, IL/John Hersey) was named to the third team. 

Atkins has started every game this season at libero and leads the team with 380 digs on the year (an average of 3.7 per game). She is also second on the team with 38 service aces. She recorded a season-best 31 digs at C.W. Post earlier this season and notched four service aces against Shepherd College.

Schlatterer is a starting middle hitter who has 93 kills and 32 blocks on the season. She is a three-time Dean's list student who has served as an academic intern with the Rhode Island Auditor's General Office and was a summer intern with the State of Illinois Emerging Leaders. She is presently the coordinator of the Bryant Leadership team and campus organizer for Relay For Life.

To be eligible for selection to the academic teams, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) participated in at least half of the team's competitions and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale); and 3) completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution.  The Northeast-10 All-Academic Teams are chosen by a vote of the Northeast-10 Sports Information Directors.

Bryant, under the direction of coach Theresa Garlacy, has posted a 9-2 conference record (17-17 overall so far this year.  The Bulldogs return to action these weekend with home matches versus Southern Connecticut and Pace.
