BRYANT VOLLEYBALL RECOGNIZED BY AVCA FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE IN 2008-09
SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The Bryant University volleyball team was recognized among a record 409 programs to earn the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for its success in the classroom during the 2008-09 school year, as announced by the AVCA Monday.
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the academic year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team GPA.
This is the first time the Bulldogs have earned this award and they are among 106 first-time recipients -- 14 of them Division I programs. In total, 71 Division I women's volleyball programs received the academic honor.
The Bulldogs gear up for their second season of NCAA Division I competition in 2009 and will begin their campaign at the Toledo Tournament on August 28-29.
