VOLLEYBALL'S STONER, CROSS COUNTRY'S TWARDOWSKI NAMED INAUGURAL BRYANT MALE AND FEMALE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Volleyball sophomore Jazmin Stoner (Durango, Colo.) and men's cross country junior Scott Twardowski (Rehoboth, Mass.) were named the inaugural Male and Female Bulldogs of the Week Monday afternoon.

The pair stood out in their respective sports in last week's contests, earning the nod in the debut of this weekly Bryant University Athletics award.

Stoner registered double-digit kill totals in all four matches on the Bulldogs' 1-3 week, collecting a pair of double-doubles in the process. The sophomore earned an all-tournament team selection after leading the Bulldogs to a 1-2 record in last weekend's Columbia Tournament, where she earned both double-doubles (21 kills, 11 digs vs. Columbia; 13 kills, 11 digs vs. FDU) and amassed 44 kills to compliment an impressive seven service aces.

Stoner set a pair of new career highs on the week, collecting a career-best 21 kills in a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Columbia and serving up a career-high five aces in a 3-2 win over Fairleigh Dickinson. The sophomore outside hitter notched back-to-back contests with a hitting percentage of .300 or better (.300 vs. Columbia; .348 vs. Lehigh) and averaged 3.24 kills per set on the week.

Twardowski led the Bulldogs to a ninth-place finish at the Quinnipiac Invitational Saturday afternoon in the men's cross country team's first scoring meet of the season. The Massachusetts native finished at the head of the pack for the Bulldogs, taking 17th overall in the men's 8K with a time of 27:03.
