MITRAVICH GARNERS BRYANT'S FIRST WEEKLY CONFERENCE HONOR, NAMED NEC VOLLEYBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Bryant University volleyball freshman Macy Mitravich (Waimanalo, Hawaii) garnered Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week honors for her 17-kill, 27-dig performance in two matches last week, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.

The award is the first weekly honor not just for Mitravich or the Bulldog volleyball program, but for Bryant University Athletics as a whole, having just become eligible for the weekly recognition in 2009-10.

The Hawaii native had a standout week, while the Bulldogs went 1-1. Mitravich recorded eight kills and 11 digs while staying perfect on 15 serve attempts (one ace) in Bryant's 3-1 loss to Holy Cross Wednesday night, following that up with a crucial nine-kill, 16-dig outing the very next night in the Bulldogs' marquee 3-1 win over intrastate rival Brown. Against the Bears, the rookie hit at a .261 clip with an ace and four blocks to help lead the Bulldogs to the much-needed victory.

On the week, the outside hitter boasted a .957 reception percentage, committing just two errors on 46 total attempts and was perfect on service attempts, getting two aces and no errors in 29 serves. She also averaged 3.38 digs per set.

Mitravich and the rest of her teammates will have to stay on their game in the coming week, as the Bulldogs host America East opponent UNH Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Chace Athletic Center before hitting the road to this weekend's Columbia Tournament, where they will take on Lehigh, NEC foe Fairleigh Dickinson and host Columbia.
