Cross Country wins 2007 Fall Sportsmanship Award
Smithfield, RI- The Northeast-10 Conference has announced the recipients of its second annual Fall 2007 Sportsmanship Awards. The awards program, which honors one team from each of the conference's 23 championship sports that has exemplified the spirit of sportsmanship and generally conducted themselves with a higher degree of integrity, character and class. The awards were decided upon by a vote of each of the conference's teams head coach, team captain and Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representative in their respective sports.
The University of Massachusetts Lowell topped other NE-10 Institutions with a record four fall Sportsmanship awards. The River Hawks recieved honors in Men's golf, WOmen's cross country, volleyball, and shared the award for field hockey with American International College.
In June, one of the 15 conference institutions will recieve the "David R. Brunk Institution of the Year Sportsmanship Award," as voted on by the conference Senior WOmen Administrator (SWA) council. Last year, Saint Anselm was selected as the award recipient. In addition, Webster Bank will make a donation annually to the institutional award winner's Boys & Girls club in the name of the school.
Sponsoring 23 championship sports and 15 full-time members, the Northeast-10 is the second largest NCAA Division II athletic conference in the nation and sponsors the most championships of any Division II conference.
Bryant University was awarded the Sportsmanship award for Men's
cross country.
