WOMEN'S CROSS-COUNTRY FINISHES 5TH, MEN 7TH AT FAIRFIELD INVITATIONAL
FAIRFIELD, Conn.- Freshman Kat Ragone (Bourne, Mass.) led the way for the Bryant University women's cross-country team, finishing 36th with a time of 21:14.45 as the Bulldogs finished fifth at the Fairfield Invitational in their first meet at the Division I level. Senior Tom Casey (New Windsor, N.Y.) was the high finisher for the men in 19th place with a final time of 26:44. The women's team finished with a total of 163 points and a time of 1:48:39.20 in the 5k race, while the men had 161 points and a total time of 2:18:14.00, in the 8 kilometer race.
"I was very pleased with our first Division I outing of the year," said head coach Stephanie Reilly. "We were missing three of our top men but the entire team performed great and all ran personal best times for the 8K. The women also had a great race today, especially having a young team (six freshmen)."
Other notable finishers on the women's side included Megan Cordi (Endwell, N.Y.) in 41st place with a time of 21:38.93, Casey Fenwick (Wayland, Mass.) in 43rd place at 21:46.19, Kacey Mitchell (Lakewood, Colo.) in 49th at 21:59.14, Amanda Garber (Brewster, N.Y.) in 51st at 22:00.49, Jennifer Denise (East Patchogue, N.Y.) in 53rd at 22:10.08 and Marissa Donovan (Belmont, N.H.) in 57th at 22:23.35.
On the men's side, Justin Getts (Beacon Fall, Conn.) came in 38th running a 27:35, Drew Clark (Hopkinton, Mass.) finished in 32rd at 27:44, John Mitton (North Reading, Mass.) in 46th at 27:48, Scott Twardowski (Rehoboth, Mass.) in 56th at 28:30, Ben Coughlin (Worcester, Mass.) in 57th at 28:35, and Chris Kelleher (Ellington, Conn.) in 60th at 28:40.
Both teams will compete again next Saturday at the Ted Owen Invitational at Central Connecticut State University.
