BRYANT CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS COMPETE AT NEW ENGLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS
BOSTON - The Bryant University men's and women's cross country teams took part in the 2009 New England Championships Saturday afternoon at Franklin Park. The Bryant men placed 36th out of 47 schools competing while the women were 32nd out of 49.
The women were led by freshman Deirdre Doyle who was the Bulldogs' top finisher overall. A week after earning first-place at Central Connecticut, Doyle placed 35th individually in a time of 18 minutes, 39 seconds on the 5-kilometer course.
Teammate Megan Robertson was next to cross the line, finishing 131st overall in 19:47. Kathrijn Moulin was 259th in 21:37 while Amanda Garber came in at 270th in 21:55. Molly Tower rounded out the scoring, placing 273rd in a time of 21:59.
The men were paced by Scott Twardowski who finished 166th individually with an 8K time of 26:45. He was followed by Chris Kelleher who was 173rd in 26:49 while Ben Coughlin (190) was next in 26:58 with Ryan Busby (247) and David Hurley (249) not far behind in 27:42 and 27:47 respectively.
UMass Lowell was the overall team winner on the men's side followed by UMass Amherst, Providence and New Hampshire. Brown University captured the women's title, edging Boston College, Dartmouth and MIT.
