CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS PLACE 7TH AND 9TH AT QUINNIPIAC INVITATIONAL

HAMDEN, Conn. -  In their first scoring meet of the season, the Bryant University women's cross country team placed seventh while the men's squad came in ninth today at the Quinnipiac Invitational in Hamden, Conn.

Crossing the finish line first for the Bulldogs in the women's 5K race was freshman Deidre Doyle (Carlow, Ireland) in 11th place overall with a time of 18:59, approximately one minute behind the first place finisher, Rebecca White of Quinnipiac. Megan Robertson (Sewell, N.J.) was next for the Bulldogs finishing in 29th overall, followed by Molly Tower (Harwinton, Conn.), Amanda Garber (Brewster, N.Y.) and Katrijn Moulin (Scarborough, Maine) in 51st, 56th and 57th, respectively.

The host, Quinnipiac won the event for the women, followed by Sacred heart, Monmouth, Yale, CCSU and Mount St. Mary's, respectively. After the Bulldogs were Long Island, Farleigh Dickinson, St. Francis (N.Y.) and Wagner College in that order.

In the men's 8K race, junior Scott Twardowski (Rehoboth, Mass.) finished first for the Bulldogs and 17th overall with a time of 27:03. Freshman David Hurley (Ashaway, R.I.) was next in for the Bryant men's team with a time of 27:27, good enough for 38th overall. Ben Coughlin (Worcester, Mass.), Chris Kelleher (Ellington, Conn.) and Austin Huminski (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) finished in 52nd, 54th and 55th, respectively.

Sacred Heart won the men's event with Central Connecticut, Monmouth, Yale and Wagner rounding out the top five, respectively. Mount St. Mary's, host Quinnipiac and LIU finished ahead of Bryant in that order. St. Francis (N.Y.) and Farleigh Dickinson closed out the field in 10th and 11th.

The Bulldogs next meet is the Ted Owen Invitational hosted by Central Connecticut at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26.
