SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University field hockey junior Clare Luttrell (Freehold, N.J.) and men’s soccer freshman Ben Williams (Unionville, Ontario) have been selected as the Navigant Credit Union Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sept. 9.
Luttrell tallied the lone goal in Bryant’s 1-0 win at Hofstra Sunday to propel the Bulldogs to their first victory of the year. The 18th minute goal was the second of Luttrell’s career and her first of 2018. Marijn Jaarsma recorded seven saves as the Bulldogs picked up a victory prior to Friday’s contest at No. 25 Albany.
Williams scored Bryant’s goal in a 1-1 draw with No. 11 Fordham Saturday at the Bulldog Soccer Field. The freshman forward won a 1-on-1 battle with a taller defender and flicked a header high over the keeper and into the net to give Bryant a 1-0 lead in the 84th minute. The Rams would pull even in the 88th minute for the final 1-1 score. The draw was Bryant’s first against a nationally ranked opponent in the Division I era.
