15 Bulldogs playing in top summer leagues

SCHLITTER, MCAVOY PITCHING IN CAPE LEAGUE

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – After the greatest season in program history, 15 members of the Bryant University baseball team will showcase their skills this summer in some of the top collegiate leagues in the Northeast.

Bryant's pitching staff finished 10th in the country in ERA and it's no surprise that two of the key weekend starters are pitching in the Cape Cod League, the top summer league in the country. Rising senior Craig Schlitter (Guilford, Conn.) is pitching for the Falmouth Commodores for the second-straight year and rising junior Kevin McAvoy (Syracuse, N.Y.) is pitching for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox.

The Bulldogs will also have a strong presence in the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) with six players dispersed throughout the region. Rising juniors Carl Anderson (Sudbury, Mass.) and Trevor Lacosse (Watervliet, N.Y.) are teammates on the New Bedford Bay Sox, rising senior Tom Gavitt (North Stonington, Conn.) is playing for the Vermont Mountaineers, rising senior Jonathan Scott (Princeton, N.J.) is playing with the Keene Swamp Bats, rising senior Vaughn Hayward (Glendale, R.I.) is playing with the Plymouth Pilgrims and rising sophomore Kyle Wilcox (Sandy Hook, Conn.) is playing with the defending champion Newport Gulls.

Bryant also has three players in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL). Rising junior Matt Zanotta (Schenectady, N.Y.) is playing for the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs, rising junior Alex Lagos (Wrentham, Mass.) is playing for the Niagara Power for the second-straight year and rising sophomore James Davitt (Wallingford, Conn.) is playing for the Albany Dutchmen.

The Black and Gold are also sending two players apiece to the Valley League and the Futures League. Rising sophomores Robby Rinn (Warwick, R.I.) and AJ Zarozny (Shrewsbury, Mass.) are both playing for the Aldie Senators in the Valley League, while rising sophomore Michael Marshall (Maynard, Mass.) is playing for the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs and rising sophomore Dan Cellucci (Sudbury, Mass.) is playing for the Nashua Silver Knights in the Futures League.
