SMITHFIELD, R.I.- The Bryant University Squash team had an extremely competitive weekend at the College National Tournament. They ranked #45 to start the tournament.
On Friday 2/23:
We started off the tournament playing against Duke. It was a very close match and it came down to the last match. Bryant got wins from #9 Brandon Bush, #1 Luke Lorenz, #6 Nishcay Wadhwa and #6 Richard Appel, who won 3-2 in a very intense match. Everyone else played really well that match, but it just wasn't enough to beat Duke.
On Saturday we played Vassar. Vassar was a very good team, but it also came down to the last match. Bryant lost 5-4 and it was very intense as well. Bryant got wins from #5 Richard Appel who again won 3-2, #7 Matthew Lawson who won 3-2 as well, #8 Brandon Bush, and #9 Jake Hunt (who got hit in the nose with his racquet and still won his match). It was a tough loss.
On Sunday, we kicked off the morning against Babson. Bryant won 7-2 in a big victory for Bryant Squash. Bryant got wins from #2 Yuvraj Duggal, #3 Jonathan Lewis who won 3-2 in a very intense match, #5 Richard Appel, #6 Nishcay Wadhwa, #7 Matthew Lawson, #8 Brandon Bush, and #9 Jake Hunt. At #4 Michael Gough lost, but played and intense match losing 3-1. And at #1 Ravi Rao was down 2-0 in games, came back and forced a fifth game but was unable to win in the fifth game. Everyone poured their hearts out in this match and left everything they had left from this season on the squash courts.
As the squash season comes to a close, Bryant Squash would like to thank everyone who supported the team throughout the year: families, coaches, and friends; but a bigger thanks to the seniors of the team, who without them this season would 't have been a huge success. We would also like to thank CSA for hosting an amazing tournament and can't wait for more to come. We would also like to invite an open invitation to anyone who is interested in playing squash next year, to please reach out to the squash program directly at (email@example.com). We would love to have more players new or experienced you can enjoy a sport that is fun and enjoyable, so please do reach out if interested.
