Bryant travels to UNH then hosts Columbia in weekend play

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Coming off of a shutout win over Colgate, the Bryant University field hockey team travels to New Hampshire on Friday before hosting Columbia on Sunday at Brown.

Series History

  • Friday's meeting will be the second time in history that the two teams square off. The Wildcats took the first meeting by blanking Bryant, 2-0, in 2010. 

A bit about the Wildcats

  • New Hampshire won their first game of the season over UMass, 3-2, but has since gone on a five-game losing streak. The Wildcats currently hold a record of 1-5.
  • Five different Wildcats have scored a goal apiece so far on the season including Nicky Bajus who leads the team with three points as she recorded an assist against UMass.
  • Kelsey Rudert has played and started every game in the cage for the Wildcats compiling a total of 24 saves with a season-high of seven against Boston University.
  • Robin Balducci leads the Wildcats in her 28th season as the program's all-time winningest head coach.

Series History

  • Bryant and Columbia have met for the past three years with the Lions leading the series, 3-0, over the Bulldogs.
  • Last season Columbia topped the Bulldogs 6-1 on the Lions home turf.

A bit about the Lions

  • The Lions enter the weekend 3-3 after a tough loss to Northeastern on Sunday, 3-2, in overtime. Columbia will be playing on Goldberger Family Field a day early as they take on cross-town rival Brown on Saturday.
  • Jennifer Trieschman leads the Lions with four goals, two assists, and 10 points. Trieschman's last goal occurred in the team's loss to Northeastern.
  • Katie Dempsey has played and started in all six games for the Lions compiling a total of 32 saves and a save percentage of .727. Dempsey tallied her first shutout of the season and a season-high of 10 saves in the Lions 1-0 win over Holy Cross.
  • Caroline Nelson-Nichols is in her fourth season as head coach.

Bryant Notes and Notables

  • Bryant enters the weekend after coming off of their second season win over Colgate, 2-0, on Sunday.
  • Ally Burdick (Cambridge, N.Y.) and Kylie Nelson (Searsmont, Maine) each added goals in the contest. Nelson netted her first goal of the season off of Eva Bazen's (The Hague, Netherlands) first career assist.
  • Marijn Jaarsma (Uithoorn, Netherlands) goes into Friday's match after compiling her second career shutout and saving four goals against the Raiders. The Netherlands native stopped a career high of 12 goals against No. 25 Albany last Friday.
  • Senior Emily Perryman (Lebanon, N.H.) leads the Bulldogs with five points as she has scored two goals and added an assist on the season.
