SOMERSET, N.J. – Bryant University men's basketball freshman Joe Kasperzyk (New Haven, Conn.) has been selected as the Northeast Conference Co-Rookie of the Week for the week ending Dec. 23, as announced Monday by the NEC office.
Kasperzyk tallied a career-high 19 points in Friday's 68-67 victory over Dartmouth at the Chace Athletic Center. The freshman guard scored nine of those points in the final 4:38 of the first half, helping trim the deficit from 15 points to eight heading into the locker room. Kasperzyk was 6-of-11 from the field and 7-of-9 from the free-throw line while adding four assists, including one to junior SaBastian Townes (Chesapeake, Va.) on the game-winning three-pointer.
Kasperzyk is the first Bryant player to earn an NEC weekly award since Brandon Carroll (Bronx, N.Y.) was named Rookie of the Week Feb. 12, 2018.
Townes was also honored by the conference office, picking up an NEC Prime Performer nod after scoring 23 points and knocking down the game-winning three-pointer in the victory over the Big Green.
Bryant returns to action Saturday when the Bulldogs face No. 24 Iowa on ESPNU at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT.
