Kim leads Bryant through 36 holes at Quidnessett

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. – Junior Payton Kim (Palatine, Ill.) posted the best 36-hole performance of the day for the Bryant University men's golf team, leading three Bulldogs in the top 10 entering the final round of the Rhode Island Invitational at Quidnessett Country Club.

Kim shot a 73 in both rounds Monday on the damp course in the Ocean State – the best score of the 12 Bulldogs in action in the tournament. Junior Matthew Stafford (Suffield, Conn.) and sophomore Gustavo Betances Pichardo (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) added top-10 results on the day for Bryant, which split into two teams plus a pair of individuals.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Kim was the only player in the field to shoot a 73 or better in both of Monday's rounds.
  • Stafford recorded a first-round 72 and second-round 77 for a seventh-place standing entering Tuesday.
  • Betances Pichardo carded a 74 and 76 to tie for eighth through 36 holes.
  • Four other Bulldogs posted top-20 results on the afternoon, led by a 13th-place score from freshman Tyler Hahn (Avon, Conn.) at 8-over.
  • Rhode Island (+25) leads Holy Cross by one stroke with the two Bryant teams at +30 and +32 heading into the final 18 holes Tuesday.
