HOLMES, Pa. — The Bryant University men's lacrosse team will take part in the Nick Colleluori Men's Lacrosse Long Island Classic Saturday, a fall ball event played at Hofstra to benefit the HEADstrong Foundation.
"We are absolutely thrilled to be invited to play at the HEADstrong event at Hofstra this Saturday," said head coach Mike Pressler. This is a tremendous fundraiser for an even better cause. On the field, we will get two full games with referees and all the new rules under our belt. It will be a very humbling and worthwhile experience for all our players and a great opportunity to end Fall Ball 2018 on a very high, positive note."
The Nick Colleluori Men's Lacrosse Classic will return to Hofstra University, Nick's alma mater, for the 12th consecutive year on Saturday, Oct. 13. The event will feature Bryant, Hofstra, Bucknell, Siena, Lehigh and Air Force. Bryant will play in the final two contests of the day, facing Lehigh at 3:30 p.m. and Siena at 5 p.m.
Since 2007, HEADstrong has presented a series of fall collegiate men's and women's lacrosse philanthropic events. Originating at Ridley High School in Pennsylvania, Colleluori's alma mater, the series has expanded to nine events overall that are hosted regionally in conjunction with collegiate partnerships. The second weekend of October will be the second of three consecutive weekends during the month to feature multiple lacrosse events at multiple locations.
The HEADstrong foundation was started by Nick Colleluori, a student-athlete on the Hofstra men's lacrosse team who began the organization while battling non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2005. Colleluori passed away in 2006, but the foundation, led by his family, staff and volunteers, continues to make an impact in the battle against cancer with the help of the lacrosse community. The Bryant men's lacrosse team begins its 20th season and 11th Division I campaign in February. The full 2019 schedule will be announced later this fall.
