SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Freshman Elin Svärd (Falun, Dalarna, Sweden) earned a pair of honors on Monday, winning the Northeast Conference's Rookie of the Week award, as well as the CollegeSwimming NEC Women's Swimmer of the Week, both organizations announced Monday.
Svärd won all four of her events for the second consecutive week, helping the Bulldogs defeat the Red Foxes by 50 points in a dual meet over the weekend in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
She was able to handily win two events, taking the 100 fly (58.08) by two seconds and the 200 IM (2:08.76) by more than three seconds. She also won the 200 fly (2:12.70) and the 200 medley relay, swimming the third leg in 25.32.
Svard's 200 IM swim was ranked as the best swim by CollegeSwimming's scoring system, and she currently owns the top times in the 100 fly and 200 IM in the NEC according to the website.
It is the Swede's second consecutive Rookie of the Week award and is the third Bulldog to win back-to-back conference honors this season.
Bryant is back in the pool on Wednesday night at Rhode Island, before ending the regular season vs. Holy Cross on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chace Athletic Center Pool.
