10 RETURN TO 2009 BRYANT VOLLEYBALL ALUMNI GAME SATURDAY AFTERNOON
SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Ten Bryant University volleyball alumni, including a pair of Hall of Famers, returned to campus and to the Chace Athletic Center Saturday afternoon to take part in the 2009 alumni match, hosted by the current Bulldog team.
Volleyball's most recent alums, 2008 captains Maureen Atkins (Fenton, Mo.) and Delia Glover (Marston Mills, Mass.), were joined by Bryant University Athletics Hall of Famers Marcie Monaco ('99) and Jenn Bailey (Carvalho) ('98) and alumni Janet Wolfe (Rooney) ('98), Beth Schlatterer ('07), Jessica Cegarra ('07), Elysce Tackmann ('07), Tiffany Garry ('08) and Likica Grceva ('08) to play a five-game match against the current Bulldog squad.
The 2009 team took the match, 3-1. The alumni were led by Atkins and Glover, their stellar defense carrying over to the alumni side after a spectacular senior season. Joining them with a strong defensive effort, also serving up a number of aces, was Tackmann.
Garry's setting paced an offense which featured hitters Grceva, Schlatterer and Cegarra, while Monaco showed off her serving and digging skills, also recording a few kills in the front row.
The current Bulldogs took 26-24 and 25-23 wins in the first two sets before falling to the alumns, 21-25. But the 2009 squad earned a convincing 25-19 victory in the fourth set to seal the win.
The 2009 Bulldogs continue their spring season with a match at Brown University, Wednesday, April 8 at 6:30 p.m.
